Franken Femme

Hi girls! I’m back from my little blogcation. I took a little break and now I’m ready to get back to blogging. I missed you all and can’t wait to catch back up on what I’ve missed.

A few weeks ago I stumbled across a post in one of my (many) Facebook nail polish groups that I’m a part of. Becca from Franken Femme posted looking for bloggers to showcase her beautiful franken polish creations and to get the word out about her blog, which is a wonderful resource for anyone looking to create their own polishes. She asked what my favorite kind of polish was and she would work to create a special mini for myself. Well ok! I wont turn that idea down.

Becca has been fabulous the whole step of the way. I let her know that I love blue and teal polishes and that I like creams, shimmers, and glitters. I suggested maybe a teal with red glitter would be pretty!

Are you ready to see what she came up with?

ImageShe seriously blew the idea I had out of the water. When I opened my package I just sat there in shock for a moment. She used a fine red shimmer with red spark for the base color and satin mint green hexes with matte teal hexes. I’m wearing two coats of polish with a base and top coat.

ImageIn the direct sunlight it looks like the base color is white. But it shifts to red. I love it! My sister in law even commented that she wouldn’t be able to stop staring at it if she was wearing it. Mission accomplished.

ImageHow do you think she did? Head over to Becca’s blog at to check out all of her other creations as well as learning tips and trick on creating your own polishes.

February Nail Art Challenge- Inspired by a Tutorial

Happy Presidents Day to my American girls! Today, day 7 of the challenge is “Inspired by a Tutorial.” I decided to incorporate our flag colors into my design today. πŸ™‚

I decided on the Fan Brush Stripped method for my nail art today. My tutorial comes from this YouTube clip by SimpleNailArtDesigns.

Image(Jayden decided to color my little paper and he was so proud of it that I just had to use it)

For my colors I started with a base of OPI Cajun Shrimp. I painted two coats and allowed that to dry. I then followed the steps in the tutorial and used Essie Where’s My Chauffeur for my blue and Color Club French Tip for my white.

ImageI really love how this turned out! It was fun and clean up wasn’t too bad. The color combinations you could create are endless.

I know this picture looks horrible (almost like a finger mug shot hahaha) but I think my middle finger kind of resembles the American flag. Do you see it too, or am I just crazy? lol

ImageAs usual, you can check out the other girls awesome manis by clicking the InLinkz below.

Abstract Art

Today I let Jayden pick out the two colors I’m wearing. He chose blue and yellow. I should have known! More specifically, he chose Julep Annie and Alma.

I wanted to do a little nail art also since it’s been awhile. I’m not really sure if this is abstract art or not but that’s what I’m calling it :).

ImageI actually really like how this turned out. It was simple to do and it’s really subtle in person. The color combinations with this design could be endless.

Alma is the mustard yellow color. I’m wearing two coats for full opaqueness. The blue is Annie. I really love this blue. It’s bright and cheery. I’m also wearing two coats of Annie. To finish, I used a white nail art polish to draw the lines in.

Julep New Years Mystery Box

πŸ˜€ I got my Julep New Years Mystery Box yesterday. So excited over it. I love Juleps mystery boxes. Since my collection with Julep has grown, I’m a bit nervous with buying the mystery boxes because I don’t want a ton of duplicate colors. Which tends to happen. But not this time!

I ordered this one mainly because they were giving an iPad (mini?) away to one lucky person. I had high hopes that person would be me LOL. Not so much. But that’s ok. The “never released mystery glitter” had me sold too!

First thing in the box where the polishes. I received 6 total. Happy camper here :). ImageRenee, Chelsea, Emmanuelle

Catherine, Mystery Glitter, Lucy

I’ve seen in other posts that the Mystery Glitter is called Erica. Mine did not have a name label on it though. It looks like a clear base full of black, orange, silver, and gold glitter.

For the products in my box I received: Image

Julep Daylight Defense SPF 30 for hands and face (full size), white glitter pot, 3 one step polish removing pads (1 pad in each), and 2 sample size Age Defying Hand Brightener. I just realized that I do have 2 of the full size’s of this Hand Brightener. I’ll actually be giving one away here very soon ;).

Over all I was very happy with this box. I don’t use SPF like I should. So, I am looking forward to trying this out. Maybe it’ll get me into a good routine. Chelsea looks a lot like Barbara from the December Maven box so I will be swatching these to compare. Catherine, I plan on giving away to a good friend of mine. She doesn’t even know it yet πŸ˜‰ Shhhh.

Julep said these mystery boxes would equal from $100 to $300. Lets see how much mine valued for.

Six polishes at $14 each = $84
Daylight Defense SPF 30 = $28
Glitter pot = ? maybe $3
Polish removing pads = ? maybe $3
Hand Brightener samples = about $2.78 a mL and I have 4mL, so $11.12? A full size is $32. I suck at math so I don’t know if I calculated that right lol.

Total of about $129. With just the polish and the SPF the who box was worth it. And I only paid $19.99 for it!

I’ve said it a million times but I love Julep! Soon enough I’ll have my January Maven box to share with you all too!

If you haven’t signed up for Julep yet and are thinking about it then you should do it soon. Rumor is that the penny intro boxes are going away after the end of the year :(. If you’re thinking about joining, you can use my referral link here or just go to Take the quick beauty profile quiz and use the code PENNY at check out to only pay $.01 for you intro box (plus shipping). Once you’ve a Maven, shipping is always free.

Nails For Newtown

Today my nails are white as a tribute for all of the victims in Newtown, CT yesterday. I have nothing witty to say today. Just peace and remembrance for those poor innocent lives and their families. ❀

Butter London Cream Tea and Essie Pearlfection

Candy Cane

I have a sweet treat for you today. Candy Cane nails! See what I did there πŸ˜‰

I was going to attempt a totally different design for this mani but I couldn’t quite get it to work. So this is what I ended up with. And I like it!

To create this mani I have 4 coats of Butter London Cream Tea as a base. It’s pretty sheer so it took me four coats to get it opaque enough for my liking. I used my striping tape to tape off four lines on my nails. Two close together on each end of my nail and leaving a fairly large gap in the middle. I used Julep Scarlett again today for the red on my mani. This polish is getting a lot of love! Painted two coats over top of Cream Tea and the tape.Β  I pulled the tape off while Scarlett was still wet to keep from ripping any of the red off with the tape. Top it with your favorite top coat and you’re good to go!

What do you think of it?! Check out the other girls mani’s below. Oh, and make sure to come back tomorrow. I’ll have an even sweeter treat πŸ˜€

Happy Saturday! Hope you’re all having a great weekend.

Today I have another Northern Star Polish to show you. And my final one for now. That’s right… for now :). I’ll buy more.

This is Antares. It’s made of turquoise, red, and white matte glitters in a clear base. There are also red star glitter but they’re few and far between. I have two coats of Antares over Sinful Colors Snow Me White and out of all of my nails I only have 1 star.

Like I said in my post yesterday, I’ve been on a polish hiatus waiting for a job interview that hasn’t happened yet. I’ve been wearing only light pinks on my nails and it was pretty boring. So instead of layering this glitter over a red or blue polish, I chose white to make it bright and stand out.

And a bottle shot so you can see Antares in all its beauty πŸ™‚

What do you think of this polish? I really like it but I know I’ve said that about all 3 of the Northern Star Polishes I purchased.

You can buy Northern Star Polish by visiting their Etsy page here.

November Nail Art Challenge- Day 6

Hi girls (and guys?)! Sorry for the hiatus. My nails have been super boring lately. I’m waiting on a call back for a job so I’ve been keeping them interview appropriate the last couple of days in hopes of that call. Hopefully I’ll be back to blue, purple, and glitter soon!

I can’t believe we’re already more than halfway finished with the November nail art challenge. Where has the month gone? Next week we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving then soon after that will be Christmas!

Day 6 of the challenge is “Inspired by another’s nails.” I wasn’t really sure what I was going to do for today’s challenge. I had a couple of different ideas in my head but since I had to take them right back off, I didn’t want to get too technical with them. So off to Pintrest. You can always find good ideas there.

Scrolling through my nail art board I came across some Mickey nails. Of course the link on Pintrest wouldn’t link back to the blog of the original artist so I googled her based on her watermark instead to give credit where it’s due. Is Maria’s blog. I believe it’s in Portuguese, a language I don’t understand, so I don’t know where to go to find the particular post. So for your viewing pleasure, here’s the photo that’s on Pinterest that inspired me:

ImageThey’re so cute! Well here’s my rendition of Maria’s nail art. For the glitter base I used one coat of Julep Vanessa, the red on my tips is two coats of Butter London Pillar Box Red, the white dots are Julep Kate, and the Mickey heads are Julep Kim. I topped it all off with a coat of HK Girl Fast Dry Top Coat.

Day 7 will be stripes and lines. I have an idea of what I want to do for that challenge but I have to hope that my striping tape I ordered from Amazon over a month ago finally comes in, or I’ll have to change my plans. See ya again soon! In the mean time check on the InLinkz below to see what the other girls are doing for day 6.

November Nail Art Challenge- Day 3

Hi everyone! I have been slacking lately around here. I’m so sorry for that. I’m going to promise to pick up the pace again. I have a few new Indies that I got recently and plan on showing off sometime this week too :).

So, it’s day 3 with the nail art challenge. The theme today is “inspired by a tutorial.” I’ve been so excited for this week since I decided to participate inΒ  Erica’s challenge.

One of my favorite nail art bloggers is Chalkboard Nails. She has great tutorials and nail art. There is one in particular that I’ve wanted to try but just never have never built up the courage. It’s her Valentine’s Owl nail art which you can find the tutorial for here. I know, I know, It’s not Valentine’s Day or even close to February. That’s okay though. This is pretty enough to wear anytime of the year!

I started out with two coats of Essie Mint Candy Apple. I just love this color. I know I’ve worn it before but it was the perfect color for the base of this mani. What do you think?

I was going to let this color dry over night and just start my art on it today. But like any impatient nail artist, I stayed up late into the night and got to work. It was okay though because I really wanted to see who our president was going to be for the next four years :).

The colors I used in this mani are as follows:

  • light pink: OPI If You Moust You Moust
  • dark pink: Butter London Snog
  • brown: Julep Vera
  • yellow: Julep Blake
  • black: Julep Brandt
  • white: Julep Kate

ImageImageThe hearts on my thumb are not my best work. I kind of hate how they turned out.

How do you think it turned out? I don’t think it’s too shabby for being my first major nail art attempt. I would like to revisit this mani in a few months and see how my skill level has changed. Maybe for Valentines Day :).

Candy Corn Mani

I’ve been slacking lately! So much for my color a week challenge haha. Two day’s failed on that.

I planned to paint blue nails for today since I missed out yesterday but I had a slammed packed day. I squeezed in some Halloween nails last minute about an hour before we went out. I’m surprised they held up but they’re not the best I could have done. And my hands are super dry. Can you believe that it’s actually been cold here the last few days?! It’s crazy! My skin is completely dry thanks to the cold weather and I keep forgetting to lotion up.

I decided to paint Candy Corn nails for my official Halloween mani. I used Butter London Cream Tea as the base and coated 3 coats on my nails. For the orange I used Julep Parker and I painting a swipe across my nail. After that dried I used Julep Daisy for the yellow and made a swipe right above Parker. I tried to clean up any overage from Daisy and used Cream Tea again on the tip to even it out a bit. This would have been a lot neater if I would have used tape but who has time for that when you’re in a hurry?!

I hope you like it and I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!!!

Here’s a bonus picture of my little pirate after Trick or Treating! He didn’t want to wear his hat or smile for the camera :).
