February Nail Art Challenge- Inspired by a Tutorial

Happy Presidents Day to my American girls! Today, day 7 of the challenge is “Inspired by a Tutorial.” I decided to incorporate our flag colors into my design today. 🙂

Image

I decided on the Fan Brush Stripped method for my nail art today. My tutorial comes from this YouTube clip by SimpleNailArtDesigns.

Image(Jayden decided to color my little paper and he was so proud of it that I just had to use it)

For my colors I started with a base of OPI Cajun Shrimp. I painted two coats and allowed that to dry. I then followed the steps in the tutorial and used Essie Where’s My Chauffeur for my blue and Color Club French Tip for my white.

Image

ImageI really love how this turned out! It was fun and clean up wasn’t too bad. The color combinations you could create are endless.

I know this picture looks horrible (almost like a finger mug shot hahaha) but I think my middle finger kind of resembles the American flag. Do you see it too, or am I just crazy? lol

Snowman

Before I get into my post I’d like to just take a moment to remember all the poor helpless children and adults that were killed in the horrific shooting in Connecticut today. My heart is broken for their parents and families. I know I’m hugging my little J a lot tighter tonight. I can’t even imagine what those parents are going through right now. RIP

It’s almost hard for me to continue with my post after that. I don’t normally get so caught up and attached to events like this. It must be because my baby is so close in age to all of those poor, innocent children.

Well today’s theme is Snowman. My Snowman looks a little angry. Maybe because he’s missing his pipe. 🙂

ImageI used 2 coats of OPI I Have A Herring Problem as my background color. Julep Kate, Vera, Brandt, and Parker make up the snowman and the snow and I used China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise for his fancy scarf.

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer

Had a very shiny nose! 🙂 I had to finish it. And as a matter of fact, my Rudolph does have a very shiny nose.

Yesterday as I was scrolling through my Instagram feed I ran across reindeer nails that were soooo cute! They belonged to Cutepolish, who also happens to have wonderful video tutorials on Youtube. Just in time for day 5 of the challenge. She was definitely my inspiration for this mani.

ImageI started out with 2 coats of Essie Yogaga as my base color on all of my nails. I topped that with a coat of Deborah Lippmann Bring On The Bling for some shine. I really loved how this combo turned out so here you can see a picture of it alone: ImageI used Julep Demi and OPI Gettin Miss Piggy With It with the red glittery tips of my nails and Rudolph’s nose. On Rudolph I used Julep Vera and Sally Hansen Coco A-go-go. His eyes are Julep Brandt and Julep Kate. All topped with a coat of HK Girl Fast Dry Top Coat to smooth it all out.

ImageWhat do you think? I think it’s cute and it was very simple to do. If you’re looking for a cute holiday mani then I suggest checking out Cutepolish’s Youtube for this tutorial.

Next up, Christmas Tree. I already know what I’m doing for this one and I’ll be back on Wednesday to show you. Also, Wednesday the winner of my giveaway will be chosen! Make sure you go enter if you haven’t already and good luck to everyone. 🙂

November Nail Art Challenge- Day 9

Let me tell you. Today was literally a challenge. I’ve never had such difficulty doing my nails! lol

Image

Today’s challenge is “water marble.” I failed horribly. After 6 attempts this was my best and my cuticles were screaming for no more.  Fun story. Yesterday when I was trying my water marbling out I think my water was too cold. The polish was beading up and would fall to the bottom of the cup. Next thing I knew my pants were getting wet! The polish ate through the bottom of the cup and my water leaked out all over my lap.

So here is my final product after 6 attempts:Image

I had Butter London Teddy Girl already on for a job interview this morning so I figured I would leave it as undies to make the water marble stand out more. So that why you see pink in the holes where the water marble didn’t pick up.

Image

I used OPI Fly and OPI Nein! Nein! Nein! Ok Fine! for my water marbling colors. I’m not sure what I kept doing wrong but maybe this is something I’ll get the courage to attempt again in the future. A long, long time from now.

Mani fail! Oh well. Check out the InLinkz below to see how the other girls did :). Also make sure you like the No Bottle Left Behind Facebook page. I’m going to be having a giveaway soon and don’t want you to miss out!

November Nail Art Challenge- Day 8

Welcome back! It’s been a hectic week around here. I hope all of my American followers had a great Thanksgiving. I know I’m still full from all of the yummy food. 🙂

Today is day 8 of the 10 week challenge. Gradient nails. This is my first ever attempted at a real gradient. Not a glitter one. It wasn’t that hard at all! I was expecting way worse lol.

Image

My inspiration for my gradient colors are yesterday’s sunset. I’ve been trying to think of what colors I wanted to use for awhile now and yesterday on our way to our hotel the sun was setting and it was so beautiful. I choose to use OPI Fly, Venique Brighten Your Day!, and China Glaze Orange Knockout (neon), for my blue, pink, and orange.

Image

It’s definitely not perfect and I can’t wait to try this out again to practice with it and try out new color combos, but overall I do love it. I started with a base of white polish also so that my colors really popped.

ImageTwo more days left in the challenge. Next I’ll be trying out my first water marble. Can’t wait to see how that turns out. Ha!

Check out what the other girls created for their gradient manis.

November Nail Art Challenge- Day 3

Hi everyone! I have been slacking lately around here. I’m so sorry for that. I’m going to promise to pick up the pace again. I have a few new Indies that I got recently and plan on showing off sometime this week too :).

So, it’s day 3 with the nail art challenge. The theme today is “inspired by a tutorial.” I’ve been so excited for this week since I decided to participate in  Erica’s challenge.

Image

One of my favorite nail art bloggers is Chalkboard Nails. She has great tutorials and nail art. There is one in particular that I’ve wanted to try but just never have never built up the courage. It’s her Valentine’s Owl nail art which you can find the tutorial for here. I know, I know, It’s not Valentine’s Day or even close to February. That’s okay though. This is pretty enough to wear anytime of the year!

I started out with two coats of Essie Mint Candy Apple. I just love this color. I know I’ve worn it before but it was the perfect color for the base of this mani. What do you think?

Image

I was going to let this color dry over night and just start my art on it today. But like any impatient nail artist, I stayed up late into the night and got to work. It was okay though because I really wanted to see who our president was going to be for the next four years :).

The colors I used in this mani are as follows:

  • light pink: OPI If You Moust You Moust
  • dark pink: Butter London Snog
  • brown: Julep Vera
  • yellow: Julep Blake
  • black: Julep Brandt
  • white: Julep Kate

ImageImageThe hearts on my thumb are not my best work. I kind of hate how they turned out.

How do you think it turned out? I don’t think it’s too shabby for being my first major nail art attempt. I would like to revisit this mani in a few months and see how my skill level has changed. Maybe for Valentines Day :).

XOXO

50 Shades of Purple

I’ve been having trouble trying to decide what color to paint my nails. That’s the sign that I have a ton of colors. Never too many though ;).

So I decided to do color weeks. I’m going to chose a color a week and make a post of that color every day for the week. Starting with purple. I really don’t wear my purples that often, at least I don’t think I do. So this is a good chance to break out the colors I don’t wear and try them out.

Now, I’m still participating in Paint Us Pink Mondays and I’m also contributing to a nail challenge in November. For those days I “plan” on making two posts a day. Now things always come up so I may not be able to do that but that’s the plan.

Here’s what I have to work with this week!                         ImageI only chose 7 out of these 17 colors. A few of these colors I’ve already used so I put those back in the Helmer.

Today I’m starting with OPI Significant Other Color. It’s a beautiful shimmery purple color. It also has hints of green depending on were the light hits it. Pretty, right?!

Image

It’s pretty sheer so I used 3 coats.

ImageWhat do you think? XOXO

Polish Us Pink – week 3

It’s really week 2 that I’ve been participating but week 3 total for Polish Us Pink.

If you didn’t see my post last week, Polish Us Pink is basically an international blogger collaboration that’s helping by raising awareness for breast cancer. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast Cancer can effect anyone so make sure to have yourself checked regularly.

Today I have a simple mani. I used a polish from the 2011 OPI Pink Of Hearts Collection. It’s called Pink Shatter. I figured it was fitting because not only was it a BCA polish but the name was awesome. Pink Shatter. Lets Shatter Breast Cancer!

I started this mani by using one coat of Sinful Colors Snow Me White. After that pretty much dried I added a coat of the OPI Pink Shatter over top. This shatter has a pretty thin constancy compared to the others I own. It applied well and cracked wonderfully. It may not do well over a darker color though since it’s so thin but white was a great undie for this polish.

I Have a Herring Problem

I love this color! I feel like I say that every post haha. But really, it’s beautiful. I Have a Herring Problem is an OPI color from the Holland Collection. It’s a shimmery grey-blue color. I wish I could say I have more polish from this collection but I don’t. I need to work on buying complete collections :).

I decided to add a little something to it but putting some hearts on my accent finger. I used Essie Lights for the pink hearts. Hearts are pretty easy to create if you haven’t tried them before. I use my smallest dotting tool. You can also use a toothpick, safety pin, bobby pin, whatever you have easy access to if you don’t have a set of dotting tools.

To create the hearts I start by dipping my dotting tool in Essie Lights. Next I make two small dots next to each other on my nail. Then after I’ve dipped my dotting tool back in the polish I pull the two dots down into a heart shape. It’s very simple and cute! Hearts are my go to because, lets be honest, I’m not an amazing nail artist.

Helmer

Guess what! I got a Helmer!!! Haha, I’m sure most of you are sitting there thinking “what on earth is she talking about?!” This is a Helmer:

HELMER Drawer unit on casters IKEA Slot for label on each drawer. Helps keep contents organized and easy to find.

It’s pretty much like a teenie tiny filing cabinet. Perfect for storing polish and all the miscellaneous stuff that goes along with it. I talked my husband into putting it together last night so I could spend nap time today filling it up :). It’s metal so it’s best to put those grip liners (for kitchen shelves) in the bottom of the drawers so your polish doesn’t slide around everywhere.

Alright so it’s 12pm, my Jayden finally decides to go down for nap, and I start packing the Helmer. I was able to fill 3 drawers but leave enough space for my future polish as well. In the top drawer I have all of my Julep, Butter London, Essie, Orly, OPI, and Zoya’s. They’re not color organize right now. I’ll get to that during nap time another day 🙂

Image

Drawer 2 has my China Glaze (notice how they’re almost all neon? haha), Nicole by OPI, Sinful Colors, Color Club minis, my 1 MAC, and a bunch of drug store brands.

Image

And finally, drawer 3. It’s full of my top and base coats, polish remover, glitter pots, caviar beads, nail files, cuticle oil, quick dry drops, restore, nail clippers, etc.

Image

There is enough room in the drawers to add to my collection. I have a 4th drawer full of cotton balls but I didn’t figure you wanted a picture of cotton balls lol. My last two drawers I will probably fill with make up or eventually more polish :). I hope you like my stash! XOXO
