February Nail Art Challenge- Inspired by a Tutorial

Happy Presidents Day to my American girls! Today, day 7 of the challenge is “Inspired by a Tutorial.” I decided to incorporate our flag colors into my design today. 🙂

I decided on the Fan Brush Stripped method for my nail art today. My tutorial comes from this YouTube clip by SimpleNailArtDesigns.

Image(Jayden decided to color my little paper and he was so proud of it that I just had to use it)

For my colors I started with a base of OPI Cajun Shrimp. I painted two coats and allowed that to dry. I then followed the steps in the tutorial and used Essie Where’s My Chauffeur for my blue and Color Club French Tip for my white.

ImageI really love how this turned out! It was fun and clean up wasn’t too bad. The color combinations you could create are endless.

I know this picture looks horrible (almost like a finger mug shot hahaha) but I think my middle finger kind of resembles the American flag. Do you see it too, or am I just crazy? lol

Febrauary Nail Art Challenge- Valentine’s Day Nails

Happy Valentines Day everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying it with your significant other, children, pets, by yourself… whatever works for you :). I planned on spending the day with my little man and taking him to the beach for a picnic today but we’ve had nasty rainy weather here in Florida so we’re staying in instead.

Before I show you my Valentine’s Day nails, I have to tell you that I don’t really like them. I had an idea in my head and it just didn’t play out as well as I was hoping it would. I wanted to use pastel colors but I think it ended up looking similar to those candy conversation hearts and they look kind of Eastery. Image

ImageI do love how my index finger and ring finger turned out though :). They’re my favorite.

ImageMy mother in law bought me these Valentine’s Day nail art stencils from Avon last month so I tried using them yesterday when I created my mani. They left a bit of the red stencil behind when I pulled them off. You can see it on my thumb and ring finger. I tried to cover it up but ended up screwing them up a bit so I gave up lol. Also my top coat made my pinky bubble up.

ImageFor this mani I used Julep Renee, Essie Mint Candy Apple, Julep Carrie, Color Club French Tip, and Julep Blake.

Happy New Year!

Happy new year, friends. Did you make any new years resolutions? I didn’t this year because I never keep them :-X lol. I don’t know how many years in a row I haven’t lost the 50lbs I promised myself I would loose by the end of the year. But I do have big plans for 2013 though.

I painted my nails late last night for our New Years party but it was too dark out for me to get a good shot of them. So I had to wait until this morning to get pictures to share. There is a little tip wear from last night. Sorry about that. Side note: I plan on investing in a light box and a new lens for my Nikon at some point this year so I have better quality pictures :).

I used two coats of Color Club French Tip and then topped that with two coats of Deborah Lippmann Boom Boom Pow. I liked this better with just one coat of Boom Boom Pow. Just a heads up if anyone is going to be looking to recreate this one. I think two coats added too much of a yellow color to the white. I’ll remember that next time. It was a fun new years mani though.

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today I have a Holly mani. We’re already into day 9 of the holiday challenge. Hard to believe that Christmas is a week away! Do you have all of your shopping done already? I definitely don’t. Procrastinator here!

Today I’m wearing 3 coats of Sally Hansen Hard-ly There with Strobe Light on the tips of my nails. I wanted to give it some sparkle :). I used Julep Scarlett for my berries and Color Club Ho-Ho-Holly for the holly leafs.

I like how it turned out. Despite the fact that you can see the stains on my nails that I’ve been trying to get rid of for 6 months now. It’s very sparkly in artificial light too, which is pretty neat looking.

You can see all the other girls Holly manis here:

Also, I have a bonus picture for you all!Image

Here’s my little polish buddy, Jayden, with Santa on Sunday. 🙂 He told Santa he wanted a bike and nail polish for mommy. Smart boy!

Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas Tree…

Happy hump day everyone. We’re halfway through the week. Woohoo! I’m also half way through this December Nail Art Challenge. Time fly’s when you’re having fun.

Today’s theme is Christmas Tree. You all told me you wanted more tutorials so I decided to go ahead and create a tutorial on how I made my tree as well. It’s very simple and I believe that anyone could do it :). Hope you enjoy it.

To start, just choose your base color for your nails. For this particular design you’re going to want to choose a color that you want as your tree garland as well. I chose Julep Sienna which is a metallic, shimmery gold color. I painted two coats, topped with top coat, and let dry for a few hours. This step is important because you’re going to be using tape. ImageDon’t mind the knick in my nail. Remember I have a two year old :). Normally I would fix that but in this mani I’ll be covering it up anyways.

After you’ve waited a few hours for your nails to dry, you’re going to need to grab scotch tape and stripping tape. Cut about 4 pieces of striping tape and two pieces of scotch tape. Rub your fingers over the back of the tape to take some of the sticky away. You don’t want it pulling your base color off of your nails.

Next, take your two pieces of scotch tape and tape an upside down V on your nails with the open part of the V at the tip of your nail and the point towards your cuticle. If you’re confused then you’ll see what I mean in the picture below. Then take your striping tape and just tape zigzags on the inside of your V. Mimic the way garland would be hung on your tree. Image

Then you’re going to grab your green polish that you want to use as your tree color. I’m using Color Club Ho-Ho-Holly. It’s the perfect Christmas Tree green. Paint one to two coats of green over top of your taped off area. Image

Now you need to quickly, but carefully, take your tape off. Make sure to do this while your green polish is still wet or it will leave holes in your tree by taking polish with the tape. Voila! You have a cute little Christmas Tree with garland.Image

Now feel free to decorate your tree as you wish. Or you can even just leave it plain. Whatever makes you happy. I decided to add some Christmas ornaments on mine. I used Color Club Berry and Bright for my tree topper, Julep Harley for the silver ornaments, and Color Club Gift of Sparkle for the purple ornaments. To add the ornaments I used the smallest of my dotting tools. You can also use the end of a pin, the tip of a pen, bobby pin, whatever works for you.Image

I decided to add tree garland on my other nails so this is how my finished mani turned out: Image

I hope my tutorial was helpful for you! Let me know if you have any questions. You can check out all the other great Christmas Tree manis by clicking the InLinkz below.

Christmas Bells

Welcome to day 4 of the Christmas nail art challenge. Today’s theme is bells.

Now, I try really hard to be an artist. But truth be told, I’m not that great with it. I was stumped when it came to trying to draw a bells on my nails. I thought about skipping today but then I would have felt like a failure lol. I searched the internet for ideas on how to draw bells but couldn’t really find anything that caught my attention. So I gave up and just decided to grab some colors and get to work.

First I grabbed Butter London West End Wonderland. This is the prefect Christmasy glitter so I knew this was the color for my bell. I also purchased the Color Club Winter Affair collection on Hautelook awhile back and figured I could work with these colors too since after all, they are part of a winter collection.

This is what I ended up with: ImageNot too bad, right? I think I was just over reacting when I was trying to plan this all out in my head :). Also, I meant to do a half moon mani with the glitter and red but completely forgot that was what I was going to do until after I’d already painted my nails red and let it dry so I winged it a bit.

I can’t wait to see all the other girls mani’s as well because this one was definitely a challenge. Unless you’re a pro :-P. You can also check them out by clicking the InLinkz below.

Next up is Reindeer! Also just a reminder to make sure you’ve entered my giveaway. I’m drawing one lucky winner next Wednesday the 12th. Don’t miss out!

Happy Veterans Day to all of my followers in the United States!

I wanted to wear some patriotic-ish nails in honor of our Veterans today. My grandfather, uncle, and cousin are all military veterans and I appreciate them and all of our other veterans on all of their hard work and dedication for our country!

Today’s polish is one coat of Color Club Berry and Bright with a coat of Northern Star Polish Kaleidoscope on top.

Berry and Bright is a shimmery red part of the Winter Affair Collection. It’s very pretty alone. I wish I would have captured a picture of this color by itself too.

Kaleidoscope is another one of the indies I purchased from Northern Star Polish on Etsy. NSP states on their Etsy page that it “consists of a clear base with matte and satin glitters in blues, green, pinks, and yellow. Ultra-fine silver holo was added for an extra sparkle, plus just dash of light blue diamonds.”

ImageI really liked this glitter. I think even more than Pumpkinlicous. I’d like to try it again with more layers of glitter and even different colored undies. All the possibilities!

Hello there again! I hope you’re all having a terrific week so far. It’s almost Friday! 🙂

Today I’m showing you an indie brand I came across on Etsy awhile back. They’re called Northern Star Polish. They had a few glitters that screamed out to me while I was searching around on Etsy to make a new purchase. One of them is Pumpkinlicious. Perfect for Autumn!

I started with two coats of Color Club Model Behavior. I normally only use 1 coat if I’m going to layer glitter over top but I wanted to swatch this color as well. You’re getting a twofer today! 🙂

It’s the perfect coppery colored undies for Pumpkinlicious, if you ask me.

Here’s Pumpkinlicious. I have one coat over top of Model Behavior.

This polish is full of burnt orange and gold holo glitter with green hexes. It’s in a clear base. I had to fish out the green hexes for a few of my nails. Overall I love it and will gladly wear this again for Thanksgiving.

What do you think of it?

Gift of Sparkle

Day 7 of purple week is here! I have to admit… I’m missing my other colors lol. I let Jayden pick the color for next week and of course he went with his favorite of all colors. You’ll find out tomorrow ;).

Today I’m wearing Color Club Gift of Sparkle. I feel like I say this a lot but this color surprised me. When I applied the 2nd coat of it, I was in love! It’s a beautiful purple glitter. It has small silver, blue, and purple glitter inside.

I ordered this in a set of mini’s off of HauteLook awhile back. I believe it’s a Christmas Collection, I’m just unsure of which year. Today while I was at Sally’s Beauty I saw a similar purple glitter for this year’s Color Club Holiday collection.

These pictures were taken in doors and they’re of 2 coats of polish.

Guess what! I got a Helmer!!! Haha, I’m sure most of you are sitting there thinking “what on earth is she talking about?!” This is a Helmer:

HELMER Drawer unit on casters IKEA Slot for label on each drawer. Helps keep contents organized and easy to find.

It’s pretty much like a teenie tiny filing cabinet. Perfect for storing polish and all the miscellaneous stuff that goes along with it. I talked my husband into putting it together last night so I could spend nap time today filling it up :). It’s metal so it’s best to put those grip liners (for kitchen shelves) in the bottom of the drawers so your polish doesn’t slide around everywhere.

Alright so it’s 12pm, my Jayden finally decides to go down for nap, and I start packing the Helmer. I was able to fill 3 drawers but leave enough space for my future polish as well. In the top drawer I have all of my Julep, Butter London, Essie, Orly, OPI, and Zoya’s. They’re not color organize right now. I’ll get to that during nap time another day 🙂

Drawer 2 has my China Glaze (notice how they’re almost all neon? haha), Nicole by OPI, Sinful Colors, Color Club minis, my 1 MAC, and a bunch of drug store brands.

And finally, drawer 3. It’s full of my top and base coats, polish remover, glitter pots, caviar beads, nail files, cuticle oil, quick dry drops, restore, nail clippers, etc.

There is enough room in the drawers to add to my collection. I have a 4th drawer full of cotton balls but I didn’t figure you wanted a picture of cotton balls lol. My last two drawers I will probably fill with make up or eventually more polish :). I hope you like my stash! XOXO
