February Nail Art Challenge- Inspired by a Tutorial

Happy Presidents Day to my American girls! Today, day 7 of the challenge is “Inspired by a Tutorial.” I decided to incorporate our flag colors into my design today. πŸ™‚

Image

I decided on the Fan Brush Stripped method for my nail art today. My tutorial comes from this YouTube clip by SimpleNailArtDesigns.

Image(Jayden decided to color my little paper and he was so proud of it that I just had to use it)

For my colors I started with a base of OPI Cajun Shrimp. I painted two coats and allowed that to dry. I then followed the steps in the tutorial and used Essie Where’s My Chauffeur for my blue and Color Club French Tip for my white.

Image

ImageI really love how this turned out! It was fun and clean up wasn’t too bad. The color combinations you could create are endless.

I know this picture looks horrible (almost like a finger mug shot hahaha) but I think my middle finger kind of resembles the American flag. Do you see it too, or am I just crazy? lol

February Nail Art Challenge- Gradients

I’m cutting it close on this one! I’ve been in a bit of a funk again. I don’t know what’s wrong with me lately. So I’m taking a bit of a blogging break. I’m still going to try to finish this challenge. Hopefully I’ll be back up to speed here soon.

Today’s challenge is “Gradients.” I chose to use Zoya Wednesday and Sally Hanson Mellow Yellow. Zoya Wednesday is one of my untried polishes.

I forgot to tape up before I started sponging! lol I had a MESS of blue to clean up and most of it didn’t want to come off. So if you’re looking at my cuticles like “what the heck?!”… that’s why.

February Nail Art Challenge- Glitter Loaded Nails

Hi girls (and guys)! Welcome to day 3 of the nail art challenge. I was really looking forward to todays challenge because I wanted to try out a jelly sandwich. I’ve flipped back and forth between actually liking or not liking this nail art style. Currently I like it lol.

Image

I’m still trying to stick with using my untried polishes when I can. Today I have one of my untried polishes for you. It’s also an indie from Once Upon a Polish called Under the Sea. Unfortunately, she’s no longer making polishes but I was lucky enough to grab this one before she closed up shop. I’m so glad I did because it’s beautiful!

Image

Image

Under the Sea was described in her Etsy shop as “holographic blue hex glitters with holographic silver square glitters in a clear base.” It’s such a beautiful polish. I had to do some dabbing to get the glitter in place because it’s just so packed full of chunky glitter that it doesn’t spread so even.

Image

To create my jelly sandwich I started with 3 coats of Essie Muchi Muchi. This is one of my favorite Essies. It’s a sheer bubble gum pink color. After the 3 coats of Muchi Muchi dried I layered one coat of Under the Sea. Then one more coat of Muchi Muchi and a final top coat of Under the Sea. Lot of layers of beautiful :).

ImageI’m really liking this combo. It almost reminds me of those big speckled gumballs.

I want to give you all a quick reminder about the epic giveaway going on. It’s open until the 24th so if you haven’t entered yet then you still have time. You can find the details for it here.

February Julep Maven- Boho Glam

Happy Saturday! I hope you’re all enjoying your weekend so far. Ready for the Super Bowl tomorrow? I’m working on my mani for it right now.

Today I have the contents of my February Julep Maven box to show you. It’s not my typical unboxing that I normally do for you all so I apologize for that. I opened my box in the car on the run a few days ago then turned around and reused my box to mail some polishes to a friend (recycling!) before I took pictures of everything lol. So I’m just going to quickly show you what all came and swatches of the polish colors.

This month Julep included their new Oxygen Nail Treatment in the boxes (except for It Girl) and give us all an extra, the Freedom Polymer Top Coat.

Image

The Oxygen Nail Treatment says to use it once or twice a week on clean nails for a high gloss coverage and strong, healthy growth. Also, it says not to use it with any other polish. I think that has some of us a little confused because we were lead to believe it was similar to a base coat.Β  Maybe I made that up in my head, who knows lol. I figured I would try it out for the day before I start my Super Bowl mani.

ImageI’m not sure that I’ll notice any results after only a few hours of wearing it but I’ll give you all an update as I use it more often. As for the Freedom Top Coat, I’m not going to test that out until next month. With the nail challenge going on this month, I’m not going to have time to give it the wear test.

The polish colors I received this month are Julianne (named after Julianne Moore) and Ingrid (named after Ingrid Bergman).

ImageJulianne is a smoky grey blue creme and Ingrid is a burnt orange creme. I’m a huge fan of creme polishes so they were both perfect for me. I swatched them on swatch sticks so you could get an idea of the color. I don’t plan on wearing these just yet but maybe I’ll be able to incorporate them into my nail art sometime this month.

ImageJulep also added a couple of little extras this month (on top of the top coat!). I didn’t snap a picture of them but they added a cute little eye lash curler and some chocolate hearts. The chocolate hearts were gone as soon as I opened my box, thanks hubby. I haven’t used the eye lash curler yet but I’m excited to try it out.

Abstract Art

Today I let Jayden pick out the two colors I’m wearing. He chose blue and yellow. I should have known! More specifically, he chose Julep Annie and Alma.

I wanted to do a little nail art also since it’s been awhile. I’m not really sure if this is abstract art or not but that’s what I’m calling it :).

ImageI actually really like how this turned out. It was simple to do and it’s really subtle in person. The color combinations with this design could be endless.

Alma is the mustard yellow color. I’m wearing two coats for full opaqueness. The blue is Annie. I really love this blue. It’s bright and cheery. I’m also wearing two coats of Annie. To finish, I used a white nail art polish to draw the lines in.

Lavender Susie

Happy Monday!

One of my Facebook nail polish groups set up an event for using untried polishes this month. I’ve noticed that so far I’ve only used my untried polishes so I’m going to keep up with that this whole month. That was really my goal as I started this blog anyways. But I always find myself going back to the same ones I know and love.

Today I’m wearing Julep Susie and Milani Lavender.

ImageSusie is a BEAUTIFUL powdery, sky blue color. I’ve received a lot of complements on this one. Even from my husband! ::gasp:: He noticed it before I shoved my hands in his face and yelled “LOOK!” like I normally do lol. Of course, I had to give him credit for it anyways since he bought it for me ;). He just didn’t know it.

Lavender is part of the Jewel FX line from Milani. It’s a clear base coat with purple micro and hexagon glitter. It’s very pretty and I think it made a great accent with Susie.

Image

Do you like this combination? What are some colors you would like to see together? I’d love some inspiration for you all.

Also, SALE ALERT! I’m sure you’ve probably seen this already but Zoya has a sale going on until 1/13/13. Three free nail polishes with the promo code Zoya2013. You only have to pay shipping and processing which is $10. So $10 for three Zoya polishes isn’t bad at all! There are some restrictions though. Aren’t there always? It’s limited to US only and it excludes Zoya Nail Treatments, Gilty Pleasures and Spring 2013 Lovely & PixieDust Collection colors.

I ordered Faye, Opal, and Wednesday πŸ™‚

I’m back!

Hi everyone! I’m back :). With nubbins. lol My nails are so short. I’m not used to them yet, even though I’ve had them short for days now. Last night was the first time I’ve painted them since I’ve had them short.

I chose Julep Amy and Deborah Lippmann Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? for my mani today. I have a surprise outing tonight that my brother in law planned for our Christmas gift. So I wanted to add a little sparkle without it being too much.

ImageI really like how this turned out. I love blue and red together. This would be a cute 4th of July mani too if I could figure out a way to incorporate some white into it.

ImageWhat do you think of this combination?

I have lots of new polishes so I’m struggling trying to figure out what to use first. They’re all so pretty. First world problems, right? lol

If you haven’t checked out Sally’s clearance sale yet then you need to head over there and see what they have. I got a great haul yesterday. I spent $11 and got 3 full size China Glaze, one mini China Glaze, plus the China Glaze Cheers set. I grabbed the last one left at my Sally’s. I’d say that was a pretty successful trip :).

November Nail Art Challenge- Day 8

Welcome back! It’s been a hectic week around here. I hope all of my American followers had a great Thanksgiving. I know I’m still full from all of the yummy food. πŸ™‚

Today is day 8 of the 10 week challenge. Gradient nails. This is my first ever attempted at a real gradient. Not a glitter one. It wasn’t that hard at all! I was expecting way worse lol.

Image

My inspiration for my gradient colors are yesterday’s sunset. I’ve been trying to think of what colors I wanted to use for awhile now and yesterday on our way to our hotel the sun was setting and it was so beautiful. I choose to use OPI Fly, Venique Brighten Your Day!, and China Glaze Orange Knockout (neon), for my blue, pink, and orange.

Image

It’s definitely not perfect and I can’t wait to try this out again to practice with it and try out new color combos, but overall I do love it. I started with a base of white polish also so that my colors really popped.

ImageTwo more days left in the challenge. Next I’ll be trying out my first water marble. Can’t wait to see how that turns out. Ha!

Check out what the other girls created for their gradient manis.

November Nail Art Challenge- Day 3

Hi everyone! I have been slacking lately around here. I’m so sorry for that. I’m going to promise to pick up the pace again. I have a few new Indies that I got recently and plan on showing off sometime this week too :).

So, it’s day 3 with the nail art challenge. The theme today is “inspired by a tutorial.” I’ve been so excited for this week since I decided to participate inΒ  Erica’s challenge.

Image

One of my favorite nail art bloggers is Chalkboard Nails. She has great tutorials and nail art. There is one in particular that I’ve wanted to try but just never have never built up the courage. It’s her Valentine’s Owl nail art which you can find the tutorial for here. I know, I know, It’s not Valentine’s Day or even close to February. That’s okay though. This is pretty enough to wear anytime of the year!

I started out with two coats of Essie Mint Candy Apple. I just love this color. I know I’ve worn it before but it was the perfect color for the base of this mani. What do you think?

Image

I was going to let this color dry over night and just start my art on it today. But like any impatient nail artist, I stayed up late into the night and got to work. It was okay though because I really wanted to see who our president was going to be for the next four years :).

The colors I used in this mani are as follows:

  • light pink: OPI If You Moust You Moust
  • dark pink: Butter London Snog
  • brown: Julep Vera
  • yellow: Julep Blake
  • black: Julep Brandt
  • white: Julep Kate

ImageImageThe hearts on my thumb are not my best work. I kind of hate how they turned out.

How do you think it turned out? I don’t think it’s too shabby for being my first major nail art attempt. I would like to revisit this mani in a few months and see how my skill level has changed. Maybe for Valentines Day :).

XOXO

November Nail Art Challenge- Day 1

Happy November everyone! I hope you’re enjoying some nice weather where you live. It’s been beautiful here in sunny Florida. I’m actually enjoying Fall for a change.

The lovely Erica and Erica’s Nails and More has set up another great Nail Art Challenge for this month. I’ve been too nervous to try any challenges in the past, but I’m getting a bit better with my nail art and swatches so I figured I’d join in this time around.

The great thing about the challenge this time around is that it’s a 10 day challenge instead of 30-31 days. Every third day the theme will change. So it give you some time to enjoy your beautiful nail art! Here’s the list of the months challenges.

So here we are, day 1. A rainbow challenge. I wanted to do something besides your typical “draw a rainbow on your nails.” I came up with a few different ideas but ended up deciding on a Saran Wrap Mani. I figured this would be a fun way to incorporate the colors of the rainbow.

The colors I used in this mani are as follows:

  1. Orange- China Glaze Orange Knockout (neon)
  2. Yellow- Sally Hanson Xtreme Wear Mellow Yellow
  3. Purple- Sinful Colors Dream On
  4. Blue- Sinful Colors Why Not
  5. Green- Julep Emilie
  6. Red- Julep Molly

You can also find this picture on Erica’s FB page

Over all I think it turned out pretty good. It doesn’t scream “rainbow” but does incorporate all of the colors in a rainbow. What do you think?
